it's omnipresent...

and it took me 20 years to realize it...

but we, the great people of Mother Earth, have a serious and dangerous addiction. how can we blame ourselves, we don't even know we're addicted. nonetheless, it exists, and it is slowly taking our oasis away from us.

-------------------

one cold, winter morning, I woke up from a nightmare -

I overdosed on plastic. I am still not sure if it was the spiced ginger tea or the homemade cinnabon with extra icing that put me in sweat bullets that night, but I am glad it happened.

I realized a very important thing that night  - we have an undying reliance on plastics and non-biodegradable materials. makes sense I guess. I mean, you buy something and you expect it to last you long enough, until you're done using it and ready to toss it away - out of sight out of mind right?

WRONG.

let's take inventory. you wake up, brush your teeth, you go to the kitchen to prepare a (nice) meal and then do the dishes. now, in those three steps you've used a toothbrush that will take more than 120b34lk84 years to degrade, a plastic spatula that will also take 23kj4h8339 years to degrade, and finally, a dish sponge that will...well you get the point, right?

disclaimer: it is not my motive to judge, nor is it my intention to point fingers.

before I go any further, I would happily like to inform you of the plethora of solutions at our fingertips. bamboo toothbrushes have become a favorite part of my morning routine. not only are bamboo toothbrushes such aesthetic (if you're into that kind of stuff ya know), but they are also part of the huge step you can take as an individual to reduce your (not so legendary) footprint on this Earth. moving on to, wood based spatulas. easy enough. and plant-based sponges. it's too easy, people! there is a world of alternatives out there. these are all items that will naturally biodegrade faster and recycle themselves into the environment to keep providing us with the amazing life we already live.

if these few words interested you enough to want to know more on how to avoid overdosing on plastic (or even dreaming of such a horrible thing), continue reading here!

"water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans."

los cabos, mexico

in the beginning there was darkness, only the sea. in the beginning there was no sun, no moon, no people. in the beginning there were no animals, or plants, only the sea. the sea was the mother that was nothing. absolutely nothing. she was the spirit of what was to come, and she was all memory and possibility.
