homegrown or homemade. that’s our focus.

The issue? Out of sight, out of mind. That’s how it works, right?

The local Houston farmers featured in this film don’t agree. They keep everything in sight and all things in mind. There is an urgency towards adopting more sustainable practices within local communities in an effort to give back to Mother Earth and our bodies. The change happens in our own backyards.

The goal? To get communities to rethink how we purchase, consume, and grow food.

How we purchase food matters. Supporting your local farmers and growers not only helps keep food local and homegrown, but it also lessens the demand of commercial food production. Commercial food production may not pose any immediate threat. Rather it may seem as a thing of centralized convenience and cost efficiency in many eyes. But this convenience has many buried consequences; preservatives, chemicals, and food waste to name a few. Things that don’t seem like a direct threat to our lives are easily disregarded. And things that don’t give immediate satisfaction or reward can easily be forgotten. And so the battle between homegrown and store bought continues.

How we consume food is up to us. But when did we loose the power to decide this simple act? When did we loose the ability to know where and how our food traveled from soil to table? Think about the last thing you consumed. Now think about where you got that item. Now try and think about how it got to that spot, so you could purchase it. This is the point where we can demand more for ourselves and for our Mother Earth. We can consume foods in a way that directly gives back to Mother Earth - sounds like immediate satisfaction to us!

Growing food isn’t a simple task. It’s the forces of patience and skill coming together sprinkled with a bit of magic and a lot of hope. But with Mother Earth on our side, and the support of our local communities, anything is possible. Creating priority in our food is the first step towards a happier and healthier community.

TAKE ACTION

Change how we, as a society, purchase, consume, and grow food. Prioritize Mother Earth and our food.
